Llanelli Warriors 24 Asda/Wilkinsons 22 (match 42)

Programme cover, inspired by Asda advert, drawn by Gary Shed.

Press coverage

The Warriors gained revenge for their only defeat of the season so far by beating this Asda team despite the fact they had joined forces with Wilkinsons. There was a fair amount of press interest in the match as it marked the reffereeing debut of Rupert Moon. As well as local press there was even a mention in the Sun newspaper.
The Warriors had their best turn out for some time although the Williams brothers were obviously worse for wear from the previous night. Mathew Phillips finally got on the field for the Warriors after playing for Betws in the previous match. Lee Picton Diane had a fiery return, picking up where he left off against Asda two years ago. he brought shame on the club along with Dai 'Swinger' Spriggs when they became the 1st Warriors to be yellow carded and sent to the 'cornel drwg'. mention must also be made of the Shedtercet missile, Stev 'Wack'em' Walley and Mauler Mole's pitch invasion.

Rupert Moon had a difficult start to his refferees career all round. he chose Gwilym lewis as man of the match whilst Asda went for John Horwood for his domination of the line out and presented with a very nice trophy. There were plenty of positives all round; Jason threw well at the line out, Nusiance always got across the gain line, bevan showed he's still got that step and Walley talked a good game. The line outs were good in both attack and defence. It wasn't all positive though with Ray Millet picking up an injury to his knees lifting John 'fatty' Horwood.

Davy scored 4 tries and a conversion for Asda.
