Match report
A balmy spring evening meant a good crowd watched the Warriors complete the double over Asda in a niggley and close fought encounter.
The Warriors fielded a large squad and were able to bring on fresh players throughout the game which possibly proved crucial. It was certainly close with Asda going into the lead late in the 1st half with a try. The Warriors backs though, well supplied with possession, pressed and pressed. The Picton boys, Lee and paul causing problems and old war horse Roger Bowen to the fore.
They pulled a score back through dean Gilasbey but Asda stretched away with another try to put them 12-5 up. So it remained for most of the game but as Asda tired the Warriors had more and more of the game. Richard Griffiths and Rob Bevan bith went close but eventually it was hooker Wyn Rees, back in the team after a long absence, who went over following some good interplay.
The Warriors finnished strongly and seasled the win with debutant Wayne Comley getting their 3rd try.
Warriors XV: Dai Spriggs (Richard Griffiths), rob Bevan (Des Williams, Colin Talcon), Lee Diane (Wayne Comley), Dean Gilasbey, Lee Rowlands, Paul Jones, Roger Bowen, Darel Watkins (Edward Williams), Wyn Rees, Mike Esney (Edward McVicar), Andrew Russ (Stephen Walley), John Horwood, Raymond Millet, David Newson (Cpt), Gwilym Lewis
Des Williams and Wayne Comley made debuts, Edward McVicar was named man of the match and Dai Newson set a new record for games as Captain (11)
Highlight of the match was probaly Asda making a poor clearance kick, full back Richard Griffiths recived the ball on their 22 but Asda chased well and 3 men homed in on Griffiths. Some called to 'watch his side step' just as he made the catch. he paused looked up and went left/right through the 3 of them. Other than that McVicar and Rees rampaging about the field and Lee Picton getting stroppy were good as well.
