Match report
After 6 matches the Warriors 1999 unbeaten run finally came to an end at rheir bogey ground- Burry Port, against an experienced Lifeboat team. In 4 previous visits against 4 different opponents all the Warriors had managed was a draw and today was no different.
The windy conditions didn't suit the Warriors running style and they quickly fell behind to two well worked tries before they really got going. However with the Lifeboat team transgressing regularly a combination of accurate touch kicking from Stephen Walley and sterling line out work from John Horwood (which earned them a shared man of the match award) s;ow;y broguht the Warriors back into the game. Two late tries in the 1st half; Dai Newson breaking from a 5m scrum and Gwilym Lewis driving over from a tapped penalty brought the scores level at half time.
The 2nd half was even more frantic and the RNLI again streched away. Running the ball from anywhere they piled on the pressure; scoring two tries and going close on numerous occasions. Back came the Warriors though, wing Richard Griffiths scoring his 3rd try in 3 apperances with a trademark jinking run. The pack secured more ball and in the backs Williams, Ruddal and Bevan continually caused problems. It seemed as if the Warriors might even sneak the ding-dong battle but in the last quater the lifeboat team scored again. Justin Pugh completed a hatrick and Peter Jones secured a brace.
The Warriors spirit was rewarded though when in the final action of a topsy turvy match Dave Newson hacked on a loose ball, somehow managed to keep control and won the race to the touch down. The blustery conditions accounted for another missed kick and the Lifeboat team were home safe.
