Swansea Gladiators 12 Llanelli Warriors 26 (Match 44)

Left review from Post, right review from Star, more or less the same but must make most of such an important win!

Rupert Moon was again the ref for one of the Warriors most important victories. Never before had the Challenge Shield been won away from home but on a horrible wet day in Waunarlwydd the Warriors managed it.
Water was streaming off the Waunarlwydd pitches and most teams probaly would have called the match off but the game went ahead on one of the club's training pitches.
Early Gladiators pressure only resulted in one try (Gary Coombe, conversion Andrew Webb) thanks to some heroic defence from the Warriors, aided by the awful conditions. They paid the price for missed opportunities when Lee 'Boy Band' Jones hacked through and Gwilym Lewis managed to score, very much against the run of play.
Dean Gilasbey got a try through a quick lineout and next Alun Stephens scored, thanks to a great hand off. Dai Spriggs landed a third conversion off the mud. Dai newson's try came straight of the training field after Dean got an idea from the super 12s and worked it to perfection.
Ashley Williams got a second try for the Gladiators but it was the Warriors who had got the landmark win. Dai Spriggs lost brownie points despite landing 3 awkward kicks as he didn't try to tackle Ashley - "We'd won anyway". Rupert Moon named Dai Nusiance man of the match but Jason had tackle of the day for the way he took out the Warriors water bottles, 1st aid and almost got travelling supporters Maralie and Andrew. Barry Williams showed Dai how to drink a pint properly and the Warriors even won the raffle.
The Gladiators took the defeat suprisingly well. The only down point was that Darren Davies turned out to be another Walley, more interested in chicks than kicks. There was a compulsary sing song on the way home to avoid having to listen to Walley's awful tape collection.

Warriors XV: Dai Spriggs, Darren Davies (Mathew Phillips), Alun Stephens, Lee Jones, Colin Talcon (Mike Spriggs), Dean Gilasbey, Andrew Evans, Jason Jenkins, Edward Williams, John Horwood, Stephen Walley, Barry Williams, Dai Newson (Cpt), Gwilym Lewis.

Tries: Gwilym Lewis, David Newson, Dean Gilasbey, Alun Stephens.
Conversions: David Spriggs (3)
Man of the match: Dai Newson

1st time club had won 8 consecutive matches (or 9 without loss) and 1st time the fixture had been won by the away team.
