Llanelli Warriors 10 Swansea Gladiators 0 (match 49)

The Warriors managed to sneak a very even match with 2 lucky tries. The game was played as a curtain raiser to the Llanelli v Swansea match which restricted time and Mike Spriggs had to step in as refferee which added to the controversey as the Warriors made it for 4 consecutive Challenge Shield wins. The fact it was a curtain raiser accounts for why there was such a large squad which hindered the Warriors flow. Dean only managed to play a very short half as he had to go and sort out the main match. Al Taylor was mentioned as pick of the new boys.

The Warriors got an early score when Lee Rowlands chipped through and Des Williams, later named man of the match, sneaked in. Dai Spriggs hit the post with his conversion attempt. In the second half The only relief from the scrapy nature of the game was when prop Andrew Russ drove over. The Gladiators contiuned to improve throughout the match and the Warriors werre relived to hear the final whistle.
Warriors: Dai Spriggs, Lee Rowlands (James/P. Henderson), Lee Jones (Lee Diane), Jonathan Mayze, (Jon Jones), Colin Talcon (Alan Taylor/Thomas/Pugh), Des Williams, Dean Gilasbey (Lee Barber), Chris Bonar (Gareth McKibbon/Chris Spriggs), Jason Jenkins, Andrew Evans (Andrew Russ/Mathew Phillips), Steve Walley (Adrian Payne), John Horwood, Barry Williams, Dai Newson (Cpt), Gwilym Lewis.
