Pantyffynnon 34 Llanelli Warriors 42 (match 88)

The Warriors were invited by Pantyffynnon to 'open' their new floodlights. The days events centered around the rugby match and the Warriors were just about able to return with a 'W' thanks to a great comeback and some good form from some new players. These included Pantyffynon veteran Carl Thomas who refused to turn out for Panty having finally managed to retire the year before. It was a dream start for new Captain Colin Talcon and the Warriors 10th season.

Match report
Pantyffynnon 34 Vs Llanelli Warriors 42

The Llanelli Warriors kicked off their 10th season in fine style, winning their opening fixture for only the second time in their history. A superb day celebrating the instillation of floodlights at Pantyffynnon was made even better for the Warriors as they came back from behind to claim victory.
It was an especially remarkable performance as many front line players were missing for a variety of reasons. Four players made debuts however, which should put the club in a strong position for the season.
Initially it was Pantyffynnon who stated strongly and inspired by scrum half Mathew James who crossed for two neat tries they built up a big lead. In the second half however they let the exhibitional nature of the game get to them and they eased off. The Warriors took full advantage and secured the game. The new boys in the pack Jo Polson, Phil Williams, Carl Thomas and Paul Jayseabee were abley lead by stand in Captain Richard Evans and veteran No 8 Dai Newson. Evans and Newson got over for a brace of tries each but were outdone by Jonathan Kerr on the wing who equalled the club record with a hatrick. Injuries disrupted the Warriors flow but Polson returned to rescue the side and shrugged off injury to make a fine 40-meter run. Tony Whittaker added a further try with a Dai Spriggs conversion completing the Warriors scoring.
The Warriors club are very proud to have played this fixture and grateful to pantyffynnon for inviting them. Captain Evans said, “It’s been nice to be invited to celebrate something like this and it was an excellent day. The game was played in good spirit and it sets us up nicely for our 10th season.” The Warriors next match will be at Stradey Park against Llanelli hospital on October 3rd.
