Well if you have to watch Wales lose (sori draw) with Italy, then Cefneithin club with the Warriors is the place to do it. One of the better games in the series with Cefn having notably stepped up their efforts in the last few encounters.
The match came 1st of course with the Warriors having to re arrange the team due to withdrawals and late comers. Billo moved to 10 and Gwilym dropped back to half back. Deano turned up just in time to see Gwilym's worst pass of the day but as he'd brought new boy Darren Pimp with him he was forgiven, even when he dropped the ball minutes after coming on. Taylor had a good half for Cefn, 1st catching Gwilym at a ruck and then getting on the outside of Lee R. Gwilym did make good use of the Cefn mud to extract his revenge though.
Rich openned the scoring but only cos Charlie didn't notice which side of the line he put the ball down. Other highlights saw Bonar and Tarw handing off various Cefn players, Anthony's mini duel with Tony Rees and Chris (again) showing the younger members of the Bonar clan whose boss.
Tony Whittaker made a lovley run in Cefn colours but then spolit it by letting Roger pass him to score. Gareth McKibbon made a great run and Neil Parker lasted for almost 15 minutes before getting tired. The toughness of the match was perhaps evidenced by injuries that forced JCB and Bloc off while Dai Ed, Tarw and both Bonars also struggled at times.
After the Wales match, the raffle raised £700 - another fantastic effort! Whilst various Warriors claimed prizes Lee was most chuffed as he got the t shirt Gwilym had his eye on. Dai Ed got man of the match in front of Tarw, Jason and Roger and was presented with a Cefnithin fleece, Charlie the ref also got one (for moaning apparently), all the Warriors got a t shirt and Marcos got some hand cream (nice). Chris did his best to make sure the boys didn't get too drunk by knocking over several galsses, but it was too little too late.
The singing saw top preformances from Jason, Meredith and John (of course) amongst others and continued all the way home on the bus (I think). (thanks to Tracey for coming to get us and Gareth for driving). It was all a bit much for Billo who was taken ill in Cefn, Rowlands who didn't get further than the Cambrian and Neil Parker who didn't even go in!, but a small group headed for town and managment stayed til the death (well 3:30am) to make sure there were no AWOLs.
The pictures tell most of the story, same time next year then.
Match report
The Warriors extended their recent run with a win in their ever popular fixture at Cefneithin.
The large crowd was kept entertained by two teams both set on running the ball and playing with plenty of width.
Despite a rearranged backline the Warriors started strongly and fly half Billo found some space on the wing and streaked upfield to put Richard Evans over for a try.
The good work continued with Neil Parker crossing on the other side and Simon Jenkins adding a third.
The scoreline didn’t reflect Cefn’s contribution at that point but they got their just rewards when veteran Roy James broke through and was quickly joined on the score sheet by Chris Moore.
With the action flowing from end to end there were plenty of incidents and good performances for both teams. Gareth McKibbon and Jason Jenkins went well in the Warriors front row whilst Marcos and Dai Juniors were impressive for the home side.
The second half saw more of the same with plenty of meaty action up front and some good pace behind. Darren Pimp made an impressive debut for the Warriors with a busy performance whilst veteran Tony Rees made hard yard for Cefneithin, both sides looking for dominance.
Warriors Captain Roger Thomas led from the front and provided the crucial breakthrough with two very different tries. The 1st saw him weaving his way past several defenders to cross near the posts, the 2nd was a more traditional effort and Thomas emerged from a pile of bodies as the driving maul trundled over the line. With Simon Jenkins and Tony Whittaker adding the conversions the Warriors had some breathing space.
Cefneithin upped their efforts though and their backs started to find holes in the Warriors defence. Andrew Cudy and Aled Davies finished off sweeping moves whilst Daniel Bonar (2) and Chris Moore (1) conversions got Cefn back within striking distance.
Within the two teams there was also a family element with 2 Bonars playing for each side. Daniel and Timothy did what they could for the home team, but Chris and Anthony were instrumental for the Warriors and Chris had the final word when he drove over in the final move of the game.
Warriors: Tony Whittaker (Alan Taylor), Meredith Pugh, Lee Rowlands, Neil Parker (Darren Pimp), Richard Evans, Mathew Billo, Gwilym Lewis, Gareth McKibbon (David Evans), Jason Jenkins, Jason Bennett (Colin Talcon, Mike James), John Horwood, Roger Thomas (Cpt), Paul Jayseabee (Dean Gilasbey), Simon Jenkins, Gwilym Lewis
