An under strength Kwik Save Cross Hands side fell to a rampant Warriors XV with Jon Jones crossing for a new record 4 tries. The Cross Hands team had to borrow a few Warriors players and did well in the circumstances.
Llanelli Warriors 65 Crosshands Kwik Save 36
The Llanelli Warriors 10th season celebrations continued with this feast of running rugby. 101 points were scored in their 101st game and the club reached their highest ever total. No sooner had flanker Simon Jenkins scored a record equalling hatrick than outside half Jonathan Jones crossed for 4, setting a new try scoring record and equalled the record for points in a match.
Spring was definitely in the air as this end to end game was played in the best free flowing conditions and spectators had to check the were really at Stradey park and not Parc De Princes as the ball was thrown about with abandon. Simon Jenkins got the score board started when a straight drive put him through the gap and a Jonathan Kerr conversion put the Warriors 7 nil up. Jonathan Jones sprinted clear for his 1st and then Jonathan Kerr increased his record breaking tally with his 13th try of the season which he also improved.
It looked like the Warriors would romp all the way but Kwik Save suddenly stepped into the game with Mike James (one of several Warriors helping out) crossed. Martins and then David Edwards quickly followed and with a conversion they were still very much in the game at half time trailing just 24-17.
If that hadn’t woken the warriors up then Gary James try certainly did. With the conversion bringing the scores even the Warriors had to act. It seemed as though Mathew Billo was about to put Kwik Save in front but he missed and play raced from one end of the field to the other with Gwilym Lewis putting Roger Thomas over. Dai Spriggs improved this try but there was no time to breathe as Martins got his second at the other end and the lead was down to just two points. Meredith Pugh quickly made it 7 but again back game the Crosshands team through Talcon and this time Tony Whittaker improved and the game was again evenly balanced. That was the end of the away teams scoring though and the Warriors ended the match ob a high. Roger Thomas added his second, Simon Jenkins his 3rd Jon Jones his 4th. With Meredith Pugh and Jon Kerr adding kicks the scoring was complete. Colin Talcon was named man of the match for another all action performance at the heart of everything. Both sides had played a full part in this champagne extravaganza and the Warriors will be overjoyed with this 7th match undefeated. They march on to Burry port on 13th for what promises to be a great day with Wales playing their 4th match of the 6 Nations.
