It may have been played on the same day as Wales v Italy but there was no doubting the main event at Cefneithin RFC was the Warriors match. With the help of Barclays match funding almost £2000 was raised for the team. Conditions were not helpful but as ever the two teams enjoyed themselves. An enjoyable match was followed by the now traditional auction and sing song with a fantastic array of prizes donated to the cause. There were even two match sponsors. The auction was followed by the inevitable sing song which was even better than usual. (what was the Welsh score again?)

Cefneithin 15 Llanelli Warriors 39
The Warriors recent good form continued with this entertaining win at Cefneithin. Despite missing a number of players the Warriors were able to field a strong team whilst the home team took the opportunity to give youngsters some experience alongside some of the club’s veterans.
The Warriors started brightly and made the most of some good field position when sprightly prop Chris Bonar touched done for an early score. The popular player went on to be named man of the match.
Warriors Captain Colin Talcon led from the front all game, popping up all over the field he made plenty of hard yards. Although scrum half Anthony Bonar was making little headway Talcon was ably supported by wing Richard Evans and hooker Jason Jenkins. Flanker Simon Jenkins who was busy throughout, extended the Warriors lead as he twice got over one of which stand in kicker Tony Whittaker improved.
Just when it seemed the Warriors might run away with it Cefn suddenly upped the tempo. They ran in 3 tries in quick succession. Daniel Bonar and Scott Mills got in with sweeping movements full of pace and guile whilst Roy James added a more pedestrian effort just after the break.
The Warriors had to dig deep but the introduction of fresh legs added new impetus. No 8 Dai Newson took matters into his own hands with a trademark burst from a close scrum to which Meredith Pugh added the conversion. As the game opened up mobile lock Roger Thomas was able to take full advantage and galloped over for two fine tries. Alan Taylor also raced under the posts showing the opposition a clean pair of heels to complete the scoring for the visitors. They now head for Betws on 26th Feb in good heart for their 100th match.
As ever the day was about more than just the game. There were two match sponsors in Industrial GRP and Olympic. Fund raising continued and Barclays match funding through Mencap and other events eventually amassed almost £2000 for the Warriors New Zealand tour. A fantastic amount and much credit must be given to Cefneithin and various supporters.
Llanelli Warriors: David Spriggs, Richard Evans, Paul Jayseab (Jon Bonar), Andrew John (Mike James), Tony Whittaker (Meredith Pugh), Dean Gilasbey (Alan Taylor), Anthony Bonar, Colin Talcon (Cpt), Jason Jenkins, Chris Bonar (Dai Edwards), John Horwood (Jonathan Kerr), Roger Thomas, Simon Jenkins, Dai Newson, Gwilym Lewis.
